Azrael

About eight thousand years ago, the vile Gorgog waged war from the Sunless Lands and was led by Grand Cardinal Lilith. One of the trusted lieutenants of Lilith was Azrael, the Wings of Darkness. During the final battle of that war shortly before Lilith was destroyed by Princess Melandir, Azrael was set upon by powerful Sorceror Priests and fell under their magic. Her body was split into six pieces which took the form of precious gems. Her conscious mind was bound to a crimson-colored ruby. The gems were scattered and the ruby was picked up by one of Azrael's subordinates and gifted to her half-mortal daughter.

The holy power of the spell had the side-effect of slowly removing the negative mana from Azrael's being. In the present day, it is almost gone and she has decided to call herself Ariel. She has been waiting dormant, sleeping, in the gem until it was worn by a girl with a similar spirit, it having been passed down for myriad generations.

The Ruby Tear as it's called is only one of Ariel's Adornments
