It's too much going on: let's pare it down, shall we?  Scratch the quotes from level 1 and 5.

As far as effects go, we should give nerfs at each level, and stacking conditions.  The nerfs should apply to all high level mental functions: focus, translate, lore, perception.  Anything else?  any objections?

So by level 5 you are Muted, Confused, Prone, and Paralyzed.  Probably don't care about much besides being paralyzed, though.  I had thought that we could throw in an opposite morale effect, since it is hard for allies to see you like that.  But then I though nah.  Hard for them to see you get stabbed, too, and that happens plenty.  No need to quantify shock in others like that.

It's too much going on: let's pare it down, shall we? Scratch the quotes from level 1 and 5. Combine the others and place in the spell description. Let's paint a picture here.
