Fake a map, forge a military command, or falsify the king’s will are great examples of the Forgery skill. The GM might want to roll this check in secret so the forger isn’t aware of how authentic his or her dupe is.

Difficulty

Forgery is an opposed roll against a target’s Discern check. Below are some situational modifiers to those checks:

Forgery check

Example Check
Forger has a copy of a similar document, or a handwriting sample if trying to impersonate someone +10
Forger has never seen the type of document to be forged -10

Discern check

Situation Check
Target has intimate knowledge of the type of document or handwriting in question +10
Target pays little attention to document, or has never before seen this type of document -10

Remember that any forgery made that goes against previous orders or knowledge is sure to cause problems. Keep a Bluff check handy for this situation.

Opposed Rolls

Forgery checks are opposed by a Discern check as detailed above.

Retry

A person can make as many forgeries as he or she wants, provided that enough materials are around.
