Talk:Immortal Legacy
Rationale for Immortal Legacy
After notable thought on the subject, I found a common link between different time periods, nations, characters, and more in my setting. Many of the characters and history are in some way related to immortality and the effects it leaves behind.
First, we have the Pantheon. Immortals deemed responsible for the world, and similar to Greco–Roman ideas, these beings are involved directly in the lives of mortals. Members of the Pantheon will manifest physically and be present for world events. Many thousands of years have passed since the dawn of time, and it is the legacy of these immortals which shapes the world. Notably, one of the Pantheon was an ascended mortal; a man who achieved immortality.
Empress Larva Duldac was the first vampire and ruler of the Empire of Everliving. The dark magics and creatures which she birthed are still active. At a point in history, she was imprisoned. Her undying life force is still present in the world, and the lands of Halestia still feel the power of her (undead) immortal legacy.
Dalmiren was a king whose obsession with his dead sister drove him to cruelly ignore his kingdom, ultimately being cursed to live until the end of the world. His immortality gave rise to years of experiments with resurrection, an art he never achieved. With the passing millennia, his mind slowly decayed, and he now leads an initiative to bring about the end of the world. The Guild of Ruin was born out of his immortal legacy.
Prince Karis, in opposition to Dalmiren, located the dancing water, and received a transformed, eternal body. He acts as a force of balance in the world. He keeps his former friend in check, and ensures the delicate balance between verdance and ruin is maintaned. The world is a different place because of his immortal legacy.
The kingdom of Celigar was once a rich, advanced human kingdom, but collapsed on its own arrogance. Their unique magic forces and strange technology are still lost in the wild lands of the east. It is shadows of the past, the immortal legacy of the works of the Celigarians who gave rise to the Order of the Twilight Adepts.
The overall concept I'm going for here is events in the past are still felt in the distant future, and the property of eternal life and going beyond human limits had direct effects on this.
