After you settle on a Concept for your character, you can choose a Race. We will define "race" here as a people united by common history, language, physical characteristics, genetics and culture. While that sounds rather technical, it might also help to think of "races" as "species": beings which are biologically different from Humans. Each race has common cultural values and personality quirks which are shared by most members of that race, so if you are struggling with Personality and Motivation, reading the entry for each race may help you make up your mind. Remember, however, that the information presented for each race only depicts a typical member of that race. There are always exceptions to the rules and these deviations from the norm often make for interesting characters.

Race affects characters by influencing the big things like what they look like, where they come from, what they believe and desire, and how they act, all the way down to the minutiae like the style of weapons and armor they wear or what their voices sound like. Race also dictates the maximum capability a character has in the base Attributes and certain special abilities inherent in each race.
