Griffs are majestic, proud beasts. They have powerful leonine bodies which are covered in tough, flexible scales. A curled, feline tail ending in a tuft of fur whips back and forth from their hind-quarters. Their forearms and chests are covered in thick manes of fur. Their heavy paws are tipped with curved raptor's claws. The head of a falcon tops their stout neck and a curved beak extends from the front of their face. Males of the species sport a mohawk-like shock of thick fur on the tops of their heads, as well. Griffs are usually well-groomed, sleek looking creatures.

Griffs are carnivorous, preferring small game like weasels, rabbits, foxes, and cats. They do occasionally take down larger game, for food or to protect their territory, but most Griffs do not find humanoids an easy or satisfying meal. Griffs are diurnal creatures, and are not usually found active at night. They shelter in eyries and caves, or in nests built in high, thick trees. Griffs are edible, and are sometimes hunted for food by those ambitious enough to take them on. Griffs also make good mounts, provided they are kept happy.

Griffs are notorious for their moodiness and pride. Griff males are very hostile to other males and will not tolerate another suitor to approach their chosen female at all. Griffs are solitary creatures, with mated pairs staying together until the young have hatched from their eggs, with the male leaving at that point. The female will raise the young until they are strong enough to hunt on their own and then leave as well. Not surprisingly then, most Griffs selected as mounts get along better with riders of the opposite sex.

All griffs have the following powers:
