Just prior to the Triadan Civil War, a splinter-group of magi formed which called itself the Order of Triadus. This splinter group believed the right to rule sat with the magi and that folk who could not use magic were of a lesser race. When the Civil War erupted in violence many splinter-groups resorted to fighting one another. One of the tactics utilized by the Order was one of cloning. Clones were "grown" and "harvested" for use in the Civil War, but the process was costly and dangerous. The secret of their making was lost in the cataclysm that destroyed the city of Rune, but some clones survived the conflict and walked out into the wide world.
Throughout the Civil War, many different people were cloned to varying purposes. Each group of identical clones belongs to a "family" and each family only consists of clones of one being. Clones could be considered twins. At the moment of their awakening, they were all created identical. Since then, their individual experiences have moulded them into distinct beings of free will and varying perspectives.
Clone philosophy is a strange thing. Firstly, many clones possess an inherent knowledge of what they are. Secondly, many clones have a predisposition to dislike, hate or visit violence upon other members of their clone family, an eventual and unforeseen side effect of the cloning process. Somewhere in the psyche, there is a powerful desire to establish one's uniqueness. If there are other "you's" out there, ruining your good name or doing something you don't agree with, well, there is only one way to stop that sort of behavior, isn't there? Clones see themselves as a loose collective, different chips from the same stone and while they do not possess a hive mind, they feel they are somewhat responsible for others of their family.
Clones are not able to conceive children. They are created sterile. Also, while the original thought behind creating the clones was to clone beings able to use magic (all the better to fight in the war), the Order was unable to create any clones able to use magic, and switched to cloning soldiers and guards instead. There have been no reported incidents of clone magi to date.
All Clones have the following powers:
