Landscape
Rune occupies one of the most dangerous territories on the face of Jaeis. After the Triadan Civil War, which left the area's cities completely ravaged, strange weather patterns and disasters, disturbed by the powerful magic that was used in the fighting began to emerge. Hauntings, unexplained supernatural disturbances, disappearances of whole army regiments or ships, and areas of unstable magic have become commonplace in the area, which has become a complete ruin.
History
The earliest history of the human race is largely based on myth. The history of Triadus is certainly no exception. In fact, it boasts one of the most interesting and widely debated myths: that of The Children of Triadus.
As far as recorded history is concerned, the inhabitants of Rune might have lived in their region indefinitely until the Civil War of 946-952. In fact, the sages of Rune compiled the first recorded histories of the world, and legitimized the Triadan Calendar.
The Triadan Civil War erupted over differing ideologies in the way that magic was to be used and governed. Until that point, the Nation-state of Rune had expanded further and further, assimilating smaller city-states under the banner of its Empire. As might be expected, such a large and powerful regime had a difficult time keeping so many powerful individuals complacent. Some mages shouted against the imperialistic nature of the Empire, while others attempted to turn the government towards fascism while others labored under the banners of other factions like Naturalism and The Black Circle.
It all came to a head as several members of the Council of Archmagi were assassinated, kidnapped, voted off the Council, or disappeared. The resulting Civil War split allegiances down so many lines that renewed peace became an impossibility. The land was torn apart and the Empire crumbled under its own weight. The survivors left to settle in other lands and began their own Colleges of Magic to be run under their own particular beliefs.
The oldest and most notable of the Colleges of Magic, The House of Mikal was located in Rune, before the War.
