The Isles of Norr are a mess of scattered islands smack dab in the middle of the Sea of Swords in central Jaeis. The isles range from tropical to temperate and include at least one completely man-made city: the floating barge-city of Drift.
History
The Isles come and go, cities washed away by storms or pushed over time miles away from their original locations. The people have come to embrace this as a way of Norrish life, much akin to the ebb and flow of the tides. There are ups and downs.
One of the mainstays of Norrish history is the Isle of Azaza. The inhabitants of the island are rumored to be at least a little mad, and speak in a strange, roundabout tongue where words are spoken out of place, backwards, or even several times over. The truth of it is that is how they've always spoken, as the original inhabitants of the island were castaways from an Egundan prison ship loaded with the insane and unstable.
The other mainstay (so to speak) is the barge-city of Drift. Drift looks like a huge, teetering behemoth of wood and nails, meandering around the Sea of Swords. Drift never stays in one place for long, and so no one is exactly sure where it will turn up next. Maps usually name the last known resting place of the city and date its course. The city is ruled by the Council of the Four Winds, four powerful Air and Water magi who keep the city safe and mobile.
