Gaunt, eerie-looking beings shunned and feared by small-minded folks.
Appearance
Nyx have thin, pallid skin pulled tight against their prominent bones, giving them an emaciated, haunting look. Their large, glowing eyes bulge from their deep sockets and shine in the dark like a cat's, giving rise to tales about will'o'wisps. They bear a resemblance to something already dead, but they are quite alive.
Personality
Nyx are reasonably paranoid and suspicious, and for good reason. Other races tend to distrust the Nyx due to unfounded myths and their strange appearance. This can lead to any number of responses ranging from a well-adjusted acceptance of their plight and zen-like stoicism to extreme hate or fear of others. Occasionally, this extreme behavior works full-circle on the Nyx, perpetuated the prejudice against them.
Habitat
Nyx keep to the forests and dark places of the world. The city of Tenebra, with its policy of acceptance for all forms of life, boasts a large population of Nyx. Haven also opens its doors to the Nyx people. The Nyx have also reportedly begun to settle in the mountains around Greygate, but refuse to settle in the city proper. The slavers of Zjenahd like to take the Nyx people for their trade, figuring few people will miss them.
Society
Nyx stick together. There is a bond between members of the race which transcends philosophical and personal differences. While this isn't to say that individual Nyx can't outright hate each other and seek out woe and destruction for one another, it does mean that Nyx strangers who encounter each other on the road to adventure are guaranteed a helpful hand from members of their race.
Adventurers
Nyx are born wanderers as they have few places to call home in the world. Nyx travelling openly with a group of adventurers often bring a taboo to that group, but there are always those who fight against the tide of discrimination to carve themselves a place of honor.
