You were never instructed on how to do much of anything. Mayhaps you are a hermit, a king's spoiled get, or just a slow witted fool. Your starting Skill Pool is reduced to half.
An Unskilled character may not start with Jack of All Trades, although he or she may buy it later in the game, and keep in mind that the skill point penalty stacks with Child and Unskilled, so an Unskilled Child is reduced to only XX starting Skill points!
