Just the opposite of the sound spell Amplify, Dampening a sound magically draws energy from the sound waves of an object. Physically, for every level of this spell cast, a sound is reduced in decibels (dB) by 10. See the Amplify spell for more information about decibel levels.
Intensity Effects
- Halve a sound's volume (lower by 10 dB).
- Quarter a sound's volume (lower by 20 dB).
- Decrease volume by a factor of 8 (lower by 30 dB).
- Decrease volume by a factor of 16 (lower by 40 dB).
- Decrease volume by a factor of 32 (lower by 50 dB).
