The mage rides the flows of magic to any intended location. The mage doesn't need to have ever been there to successfully teleport. All of the mage's equipment comes along for the ride, but no other living creature. Unlike the elemental portation spells, there is no requirement for the presence of specific materials nearby for the mage to start the journey.
