Magic is a real, tangible, and powerful force in the campaign settings of Elysium. It molds fate, will, and the universe itself. A character could view magic in three different ways.
- Magic is to be hated and feared. It's unpredictable and too powerful, so those who wield magic are to be untrusted, attacked, or destroyed. This viewpoint is usually held by those who don't understand magic or have suffered at the hands of a cruel spellcaster.
- Magic is a property of the world just like the weather and gravity. It may or may not be helpful in any way. Those who wield magic aren't any different from another skilled artisan — just talented and learned. This viewpoint is usually held by those for whom magic is removed from daily life.
- Magic is a necessity and completely indispensable. Life as it is known would cease to be without magic. It is a wonderful and rewarding force of the world. This viewpoint is usually held by those who actively rely on magic and its effects.
Magic can be found in many forms. Characters could wield magic weapons, armor, or other enchanted objects that have unique properties or abilities. Characters themselves can learn to cast spells or be born innately with latent magical ability. Magic spells need not be reserved for learned, old wizards. In the Elysium game, it could be commanded just as easily by a swordsman, a diplomat, or a thief.
