Wemther is a nation east of Gartania, west of Irsayle and north of Thoindyn. Its capital is Yitur and is the home of the Dragoon Knights.

Climate

The country of Wemther is graced with humid, warm (but not hot) summers and cold, snowy winters. It's subject to mild storm activity, with tornadoes and hurricanes being rare. The coast sees strong surf and tidal changes of up to 13 feet in some areas. Fog is common in spring and low summer along the coast and slightly inland.

Geography

A richly wooded frontier, Wemther is abundant in natural resources and breathtaking landscapes. Its southern border is the Estper mountain range, where against a sizable mountain wall is nestled Yitur and the Roost of Bendash. The rest of the country is made up of the foothills of the Estpers, as well as rolling fields, and some short coastal plains and in some places cliffs.

Flora

Wemther is primarily blanketed in fir trees and pines, but also in great numbers of maple, spruce, oak, and birch. In addition to these great forests, there are also wetlands containing plants such as reeds, cattails, and cranberry bushes. Wild blueberries grow in droves on hillsides and in fields.

Fauna

Commonly seen in the region are rodents such as grey squirrels, red squirrels, chipmunks, hares, and mice. Aquatic mammals such as beavers, otters, and muskrats can be found near bodies of water. There are few species of snakes and turtle present. Many species of bird are found among the great trees in this land. Other mammals thrive, such as foxes, fishers, raccoons, bobcats, and coyotes. Larger animals including deer, elk, moose, gray wolves, and black bear roam the forests. The land is home to two species of enormous animals, the giant wolf and giant moose.

Government

Since the land is mostly a sparsely-populated wild frontier, a sense of reigning government is lacking. While Yitur is noted as the nation's capital, no country-wide government is seated there. Instead, each populated area is governed independently by a mayor or similar official. Each region collects its own taxes, enforces its own laws, and keeps standing its own militia.

Economy

Much of the business that takes place in Wemther has to do with its resources. Trapping is prevalent and fur trading is a historically successful business there. Fishing is widely practiced along the coast, with many kinds of crustaceans and fish unique to the region. Jurens and humans practice logging inland, the jurens making use of domesticated giant moose to assist as animals of labor. Some farming goes on, the chief products being cranberries, blueberries, potatoes, and tree syrup. Thanks to the lumber industry in Wemther, shipwrights along the coast build vessels of unequal craftsmanship.

History

It is told in legend that Wemther was the home of ogui. It's written that thousands of years ago, among the now-lost city states of juren kind, one earned the wrath of Deniss. Her favored dragon, Yulothagyurn, whom she rode in the Great War of Immortals, was a great nuisance for the city. After a successful attack by a group of jureni heroes, the dragon was slain. In anger, Deniss cursed the entire city, made them hideous and added that upon the rising of the sun, any in its light would be turned to solid stone. Many fled underground, but some disbelieved the curse and were petrified at dawn. It is said the city still stands somewhere, now crumbling and full of monstrous statues.
